Questions about industrial cooling equipment

Straight answers on ratings, power, refrigerants and quoting. Product questions sit on each equipment page.

General questions

What does KUHLWERX sell?

KUHLWERX supplies and supports UL approved industrial cooling equipment in North America: dry coolers, condensers, CO2 gas coolers, oil coolers, industrial and dual discharge unit coolers, blast freezers, ripening coolers and heat exchangers built to print, rated at 60 Hz and sized to each project.

Are KUHLWERX units UL approved?

Yes. KUHLWERX equipment is UL approved. The range also carries ISO 9001, CE and RoHS.

Do the units run on US 60 Hz power?

Yes. Ratings are at 60 Hz. Units use EC fans on 208-230 V or 460 V supply, and fans of 49 in and larger run on a VFD, so rated airflow and capacity hold on US power.

Where is KUHLWERX located?

27530 US-31, Flomaton, AL 36441. KUHLWERX supplies and supports equipment across North America.

Do you publish prices?

No. Every unit is sized to the heat load, fluid and site conditions, so the price depends on the selection. Send the numbers and a sized quote comes back.

What do you need to quote?

The heat load in Btu/h or MBH, the fluid or refrigerant, flow and temperatures, the design ambient, the electrical supply and any sound or footprint limit. Rough numbers are fine.

What is the capacity range?

From a 7 MBH unit cooler to dry coolers over 14,500 MBH per unit.

What is the difference between a dry cooler and a cooling tower?

A dry cooler is closed loop and uses no water, but cannot cool the fluid below the outdoor dry-bulb temperature. A cooling tower evaporates water and can approach the wet-bulb temperature, at the cost of makeup water, blowdown and water treatment.

What does 10°F TD mean on a unit cooler rating?

TD is the entering air temperature minus the saturated suction temperature. US unit coolers are rated at 10°F TD. Capacity scales with TD, so a unit at 15°F TD delivers about one and a half times its 10°F TD rating.

Which refrigerants are supported?

HFC and HFO blends, CO2 and ammonia, plus water and glycol. Published HFC ratings are on R404A and R507A; lower-GWP refrigerants are selected per project.

How does the AIM Act affect refrigeration equipment?

Under the AIM Act, the EPA is phasing down HFC production and limiting high-GWP refrigerants in new systems, sector by sector. Tell us the refrigerant the system is designed for and the selection is run on it.

How do I read a KUHLWERX model code?

Left to right: family, medium or arrangement, size, then build. KUC-H017-116-F6R4 is an industrial unit cooler, HFC, 17 MBH at 10°F TD, one 16 in fan, 6 fins per inch, 4 rows.

Can you build a coil to my drawing?

Yes. Coils and heat exchangers are built to print in copper, stainless, cupronickel or titanium tube, up to 39 ft of finned length.
